2019 Proprietary Red Reserve No. 8

2019 Proprietary Red Reserve No. 8

A Bordeaux-inspired blend from three unique Napa Valley vineyards, the 2019 Reserve No. 8 harnesses our philosophy of finding superb sites that neighbor natural bodies of water into the spotlight. The Napa River’s various tributaries allow one to find agricultural gold if one knows where to look, and takes you off the beaten path if you’re up for the adventure. Fruit born among a rugged hillside terroir melds effortlessly with energetic and opulent grapes, bringing three distinct grapes and profiles into one expressive offering. The resulting wine is an homage to both the Napa Valley and the marvelous river that runs through it.

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Malbec, and 20% Merlot, generous aromas of wild Marasca cherries, spiced plums, cigar box, gravel and toasty oak leap out of the glass, and lead into a sensual palate full of ripe blackberries, warm blueberry pie, sweet herbs, and spiced vanillin. Aged in 80% new French Oak for 18 months, there is a sophistication and persistence on the finish full of complex fruit, backed by keen layers of acidity that carry effortlessly through the finish.

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve No.5

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve No.5

92 Points - James Suckling

The two vineyards that grow the fruit that goes into this wine are the things that Cabernet dreams are made of. Our Oakville source lies in the heart of the Oakville Bench on the western side of the AVA just a stone’s throw from the Napa River, delivering an opulence and concentration that serves as the baseline for this fabulous offering. With the additional fruit sourced from Rutherford and St. Helena appellations, the wine comes together as a beacon of Napa Valley’s finest, serving as a formidable reminder of why this region is the world’s best for making Cabernet of the highest order.

92 - James Suckling
Aromas of cassis, ripe blueberries, dark licorice, sandalwood and ashes with bark undertones. Full-bodied with firm, powdery tannins and succulent fruit. Rich but vivid and flavorful. Attractive now, but better after 2025.

91 - Jeb Dunnuck
As to the reds, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve No. 5 is outstanding, as well as a great value. Red and black fruits, burning embers, camphor, and a kiss of leather all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, complex, concentrated 2021. It has some firmer tannins but there's a wealth of fruit here and it's going to drink well for 8-10 years.

2021 Proprietary Red Reserve No.3

2021 Proprietary Red Reserve No.3

91+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck

There’s always a wild child in the family, and Reserve No. 3 stands proud under that identity. Using the same Cabernet and Merlot as its No. 8 sibling, we adjusted the Malbec percentage and added Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, creating a Proprietary Red that is unlike any other in the Napa Valley. That blend's unique briary personality brings a profound flavor profile to the table, while still being rooted in the classic flavors of Napa Valley that define the region.

Gothic in the glass and ready to take on all comers, an avalanche of dark cherries, sweet plums and prunes on the nose following through to a medium body with chalky tannins and texture, savory minerals and briary tones that straddle the beautiful line between harmony and hedonism. Aged in 20% new French Oak for 18 months, the intense medley of blue and black fruits complement the smooth finish, all wrapped in supple tannins that dance across the palate.

91+ Points - Jeb Dunnuck
A complex nose of ripe black fruits, black olives, and a hint of iron to go with medium to full-bodied richness on the palate. This ripe, textured, mouth-filling effort has enough tannins to warrant a few years in the cellar, and I suspect it will evolve nicely through 2031.

The gentlest sibling in the Verdon Proprietary Red family is No. 5. It, too, stands proud under that identity. Its unique blend demonstrates a compelling personality that brings a silky smooth glory to the table that defines the classic flavors of the Napa Valley region.

Gorgeous blueberry liqueur notes intermixed with graphite and minerals jump from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-colored red. It boasts fabulous intensity, an alluring texture and a rich, concentrated finish with no hard edges. Big and stylish, ready for your palate.

91 - James Suckling
A mellow red with plums and herbs on the nose together with hints of prunes and raw cocoa. Medium body with fine tannins and a spicy edge lifting the mid-palate. Juicy and satisfying finish. Drink or hold.

91 - Jeb Dunnuck
Raised 18 months in 60% new French oak, it's another terrific value from this label that has pure red and black fruits, some chocolaty, spicy oak, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink this total charmer over the coming 7-8 years.

The morning fog meanders it’s way through the waterways, bringing natural chill to the fruit, which helps it maintain a perfect balance of concentrated fruit and vibrant acidity.
